Date attributed from title. However, signature within title cartouche and comparison with Add. Ms. 57.702.1, also showing Halifax Harbour [this view also has a manuscript addition to verso in ink - "R A Davenport 1830"], refer to nineteenth-century dates. Could Richard Alfred Davenport (known as a writer and based in London) have been responsible for this view? Was he copying an earlier 1760 view of Halifax Harbour? Stylistically, the view could have been produced in Halifax and later came into Davenport's possession.
Oriented with north to the right of the map.
Shows title in a decorative cartouche, surmounted by a boar's head - staked and bleeding, at upper right.
See Add. Ms. 57.702.1. for another map with the signature "RAD".
Copy at Add Ms 57,702.2. Bound in R.U.S.I. Vol LXVII. Comprises 2 sheets, joined. Shows manuscript addition of "2" in pencil at upper right. Green circular sticker to verso with "12". Additional white label to verso showing "DRAWER 28 SECTION 1". Additional manuscript addition in pencil to verso showing "A 28/69". Further additions to the verso shows "182" stamped and "43" in red pencil.
