From the first issue of Ken Magazine issued on April 7,1938 by David A. Smart and editor Arnold Gingrich who founded Esquire magazine.
Grouped together on the map are the rising dictators leading up to World War II which includes Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco of Spain and Stalin who is pictured separately on the map on the Soviet Union.
Black, gray and orange colors on map key designate the following categories: dictatorial control, varying degrees of control and relative freedom.
Verso: "April showers bring May flowers", print of a painting by German artist George Grosz showing a horrific war scene and the aftermath of the battles in a cemetery of war dead with flowers and wreaths adorning the gravesites. Included is a caricature of Hermann Göring titled "Goering the gaudy cockerel" by cartoonist Sam Berman.
