Many maps are great works of art as well as functional sources of information. This lesson, developed with Boston Public Schools art teacher Ida Vozzella for grade 3, uses pictorial maps as a source of inspiration. Students learn basic map elements, as well as the art style of Grandma Moses, to create their own pictorial maps of a fantasy land based on the song Big Rock Candy Mountain.
