<mods:abstract>During the Golden Age of Dutch Cartography, many world maps were composed of two hemispheres, one for each of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. However, this elaborately decorated world map projected the world on Northern and Southern Hemispheres, an orientation that was rarely used at this time. This unusual map appeared in Cornelis de Jode's 1593 edition of an atlas publication that was initiated by his father, Gerard, in 1578. Although Cornelis's world map did not use the cordiform projection preferred by his father, it did employ a similar border scheme of windheads and clouds.</mods:abstract>
